I have some cool local shows in Chicago this week I wanted to let you all know about.
-Monday, December 6th I’ll be in my occasional role of subbing for the rad bassist Jason Roebke with The Josh Berman Trio at the Old Town Ale House, playing in the good jazz tradition and featuring Matt Schneider on guitar. (219 W. North Ave., 10pm-1am)
-Wednesday, December 8th I’ll be playing with improvising collective Polyglot (bass clarinetist Jason Stein, drummer Frank Rosaly, and myself) at the Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia, 10pm)
-Thursday, December 9th I’ll be at the Hideout again with Matt Schneider’s Moon Bros Band (an ensemble extension of his inimitable avant-folk solo project). (same time and station as Wednesday)
-Friday, December 10th Polyglot will be spending the day recording our debut album at Strobe studios, and then performing in a live at Strobe Session that evening for the public and the camera eye (2631 W. Division, doors at 7:30).
-Sunday, December 12th I will be at the Hungry Brain (2319 W. Belmont Avenue) with A Fox Can Be Hungry, Matt Schneider’s project of his rad instrumental music (10pm).

I’ve put two of my records for sale online. So far these are the only two “out” that I did all myself, though more are soon to follow.
The first one, Solo Bass, I recorded at my friend Jamie’s years ago, in exchange for some bass playing I did on a Xiu Xiu record. I put out a physical release of the record a while back, though have amended it slightly in this form (actually subtracted two songs that I think break the musical/conceptual flow). I think it’s better this way; more of a story (or two stories actually, which it literally is). It is on my solo page on this here sight:

The other record is also a solo thing, but with multiple bass tracks (acoustic and electric) and even some voice this time. This project is the first in my one man bass band blackened/ambient project called Lucifer the Lightbearer, named for my favorite character from Hebrew folklore and also for the anarchist/feminist paper of the same name from the early 1900′s. The music is very influenced by my undying love of the darker side of Metal, as well as Kate Bush of course:

I am very lucky to be playing two great sets:
Set one: acoustic duo with Nicole Mitchell. I am so excited to make some music with this great musician.
Set two: electrified dreamscapes with Steven Hess (drums/electronics) and David Daniell (guitars, etc)
